SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2021: Versant Solutions Group and Mediacom Communications to present insights from real-world use of the NetVersant automated design and optimization (ADO) technology.

Markham, Ontario - Versant Solutions Group and Mediacom Communications to present findings and insights from the application of NetVersant DesignTM automated design and optimization (ADO) technology to its access network strategy and planning activities and to its business-as-usual network design and implementation efforts.

This technical paper will discuss Mediacom’s decision to adopt ADO technology to assist in making decisions on major capital investments, while having to consider multiple, evolving network technologies and architectures. In addition to these variables Mediacom operates in a variety of markets, from urban to rural and everything in between, while having too little time to perform the needed analyses to inform their decisions using traditional methods.

Included will be details about a unique situation in which Mediacom entered into a competitive bidding process to serve a mid-size US city with symmetrical Gigabit service and, using ADO technology, was able to quickly and confidently evaluate multiple N+x network architectures in terms of technical feasibility and capital cost.

“The application of NetVersant ADO technology has empowered Mediacom to produce the ‘Whole Company in a Bag’, that is: A set of preliminary designs and cost estimates for Mediacom’s current standard Fiber-Deep architecture. While it was expected from the outset that ADO technology would immediately benefit those directly involved in network planning and engineering, it became increasingly apparent that the use of ADO technology has conferred benefits on practically every group within Mediacom involved in the funding, design, construction, and operation of the access network.” said Ian Oliver, President, Versant Solutions Group.

This paper will be presented on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, from 3:00–4:15 pm as part of the “What it Takes to Automate Operations at Scale” – Operational Transformation Workshop during the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, Virtual Experience taking place online from October 11-14. https://expo.scte.org

In this operations workshop triple-header, moderated by Shane Portfolio, Senior VP of Field Operations Engineering for Comcast, Richard Brown, Sr. Manager, Network Planning & Automation at Cox and Betsy Riley-Wasserman, VP TPX Consumer & Strategic Programs at Comcast will join Versant Solutions Group's Ian Oliver to discuss what it takes to achieve massive operational scale.
